, Eilat Port workers will hold a solidarity strike with Arkia Airlines workers who were put to a vacation without pay

Posted on Aug 6, 2020 by Ifi Reporter - Dan Bielski

At nine o'clock Thursday, Eilat Port workers will hold a solidarity strike with Arkia Airlines workers, at the initiative of the Histadrut Transportation Workers' Union. This, in protest of the fact that the Nakash brothers - the controlling owners of Arkia, who also own the port of Eilat - do not flow money to restore the airline's operations. Hundreds of Arkia employees were taken on unpaid leave about five months ago. Port workers will demonstrate at the port gates and return to work.
Arkia employees, who own 30% of the airline's shares, fear that the controlling shareholders do not intend to open the company. The Histadrut announced a labor dispute in Arkia last week.
The chairman of the Histadrut's Transportation Workers' Union, Avi Edri, said: "It's time for solidarity between workers, certainly and certainly when they are employed by the same owners. I am proud of the employees of the Port of Eilat and the employees of Arkia who strengthen each other. "
Arkia Workers' Chairman Aliza Blaish said: "The owners, the Nakash brothers, and Avi Hurmero, the chairman, have chosen to dry up and close down the Arkia company - and send 540 workers to the unemployment circle. I call on the Nakash brothers to demonstrate Zionism and return the company to activity immediately."
