Prime Minister Prime Minister called for the rapid transfer of an annual budget for 2020

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu again called on Monday afternoon for the rapid transfer of an annual budget for 2020. Speaking at a Likud faction meeting, he said: "We need to transfer an immediate budget so that we can inject more money into citizens and give certainty and stability to the Israeli economy. This is an essential thing.
Netanyahu also said at the meeting that "an immediate budget must be brought to bring certainty and stability to the economy. The failure to transfer the budget harms Israel's credit rating and the way we are looked at in international markets. If we transfer a biennial budget, it takes a long time. "A biennial budget means doing the exact opposite of what needs to be done now. We will make the economy go up, we will create a negative level of expectations that it will shrink."
According to Netanyahu, "Making a biennial budget today instead of an immediate budget, means very significant cuts. It is economic decrees. It is exactly the opposite of what needs to be done. This is not the time for cuts, this is the time to continue pouring money into citizens. "To transfer money to the health system to prepare for the winter - and we will achieve all this with an immediate budget. This is the order of the day."
He added, "The order of the hour is unity. No one wants an election and there is no reason for there to be an election." Netanyahu demands immediate approval of an annual budget for 2020 only. While blue-and-white chairman Bnei Gantz demands the approval of a biennial budget for the years 2020-2021. Gantz last night informed Knesset members in his faction that he would not move from his demand for a biennial budget.
If the Knesset does not approve the 2020 budget in the second and third readings by August 25 or does not enact a law that allows the government to act without an approved state budget - then it will be automatically dispersed and elections will be held in mid-November 2020.
Shas chairman Aryeh Deri is working to mediate between Netanyahu and Gantz to prevent early elections. The ultra-Orthodox are opposed to the early elections not approving a state budget for 2020 for the main reason that there is a large deficit of about NIS 300 million in the yeshivot budget.
