Retail chains Revenue decreased in June by 3.6% compared to May

Posted on Jul 29, 2020 by Ifi Reporter

Revenue from retail chains (gross income) decreased in June by 3.6% compared to May, and by 4.8% compared to June 2019. This is according to data published by the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS). Revenue from food chains decreased in June by 2.2% Compared to May, however, compared to June last year it climbed 4.9%.
The reasons for this are the continued work from home of many employees in the economy and an increase in the number of people in isolation, which has led to an increase in food purchases and a decrease in purchases in malls. The rising number of unemployed is also not helping the recovery of fashion chains. Also, the fear that began to arise at the end of June of another locksmith, led to a moderate increase in food sales and apparently did not contribute to sales in malls that even recently allowed chains to close stores over the weekend and are in a series of power struggles with chains over rents and management.
Although the open shopping centers enjoyed a 20% increase in sales in June compared to last year and some chains experienced growth - especially toy and computer chains, the closed malls saw a 4% decrease in sales in June compared to June 2019.
The discussion of the food chains climbed in this period by 9.5% compared to the corresponding period last year - a higher rate than that recorded in 2019 (0.3%) and in 2018 (3%). This, among other things, against the background of increased purchases in April in preparation for Passover and Independence Day, as well as in the framework of stocking up on food due to the corona crisis and the fear of closure.
