The director of the Ministry of the Environment, David Yahalomi, calls for a halt to the establishment of polluting gaseous power plants around the country, and to establish integrated renewable energy facilities with storage.
"According to an up-to-date report prepared by ministry experts, the combined facilities will save the economy about NIS 9 billion in discounted capitalization over station life, prevent pollution and health damage, and improve the reliability of the electricity supply. Anyway, looking at the issue is an absurdity."
David yahalomi, CEO of the Ministry of the Environment: "There is no sense in investing tens of billions of shekels in setting up inefficient and polluting gas power plants. After the Department of Environmental Protection, Gamaliel discovered, prompted me to look into the issue, and based on the professional work done at the Ministry of the Environment, the picture is clear: It is a weighty issue at the economic and health level whose implications for the public and the economy are dramatic, and therefore the stopping of the establishment of polluting stations is necessary and Re-examine Israel's electricity generation strategy in light of technological developments and trends in the world with the Ministry of Energy and all government officials.
"The combination of renewable energy and storage is preferable, also in light of its contribution to improving the reliability of Israel's electricity supply. Therefore, the old policy of promoting the establishment of polluting gas stations should be avoided and, instead, switched to environmental and efficient technologies, as has been done in many countries in the world, especially the OECD countries.
