Helios Fund Scores Major Exit in UK Biogas Sector, Eyes €200M Fundraising Amid Growing Israeli Interest in Renewables
Posted on Jul 13, 2025 by Ifi Reporter - Dan Bielski
The Israeli investment fund Helios, a key player in the renewable energy sector, has marked a major milestone with a lucrative exit from a British biogas company. The deal, which generated a profit of approximately half a billion shekels, highlights the fund’s strategic positioning in the UK’s clean energy market.
Having already raised over €1 billion to date, Helios is now preparing to launch its sixth fund, targeting a further €200 million in capital in the coming months. The upcoming fundraising effort comes as Israeli institutional investors increasingly turn to infrastructure and clean energy sectors, especially in light of ongoing regional instability.
UK Clean Energy Market Presented to Israeli Investors
In a recent event held at the British Ambassador’s residence, Helios hosted a conference tailored for Israeli institutional investors. The event aimed to position Britain as a key opportunity hub for Israeli capital in renewable energy, while also offering insights on how to successfully penetrate European markets.
"Investing in today’s complex environment, especially considering the situation in Israel, is not easy," said Nimrod Gur, co-founder of Helios. "But during uncertain times, there is a clear preference for stable investment avenues. Infrastructure stands out, and this is where we're seeing growing interest."
A Trillion-Pound Opportunity in UK Decarbonization
Ron Rapaport, Investment Director at Helios, emphasized the attractiveness of the UK market, citing its robust regulatory framework and long-term policy clarity, particularly in the realm of green energy. “The UK’s ambition to reach net zero carbon emissions by 2050 requires over a trillion pounds in investment, which will be sourced through both public and private channels,” he explained.
Rapaport added that the long-term vision and regulatory consistency in the UK offer fertile ground for strategic, large-scale infrastructure investments that can yield significant returns.
AI Boom Fueling Demand for Green Energy
One of the emerging trends driving investor interest is the rapid growth of artificial intelligence, which is significantly increasing global electricity demand. Yossi Levy, CEO and founder of Mor Investment House, highlighted this trend: “Tech giants are pouring tens of billions into data centers, which dramatically raises the need for clean and efficient energy solutions.”
He noted that the UK is well-positioned to respond to this demand surge, and predicted “crazy growth” in the clean energy sector as a result.
Looking Ahead: Stability and Vision for Growth
Helios’s leadership remains confident that the UK’s regulatory stability and policy commitments will continue to attract capital from Israeli institutions and beyond. “In the next 20 years, we expect a large-scale transformation in the UK infrastructure sector,” Rapaport concluded. “We believe this will generate long-term value for both Britain and Israel.”
