A new survey conducted by the Geocartography Survey Institute found that a majority of Israeli opinion leaders believe the Rami Levy Hashikma Marketing supermarket chain offers the cheapest shopping basket for Passover.
According to the survey, 62% of respondents identified the Rami Levy chain as the most affordable option for holiday grocery shopping.
The findings come as Israeli consumers prepare for the Passover holiday, a period traditionally associated with increased food spending due to special kosher products and festive meals.
Strongest Support Among Older Consumers
The survey revealed particularly strong perceptions of affordability among older respondents.
Among those aged 55 and above, 76% said the Rami Levy chain provides the lowest-priced Passover shopping basket, making it the most dominant response within any demographic group measured in the poll.
Researchers noted that this age group tends to be especially price-sensitive during major holiday shopping periods.
Israelis Willing to Travel for Lower Prices
The survey also examined how far consumers are willing to travel to shop at the supermarket chain offering the lowest prices.
According to the results:
-
34% of respondents said they are willing to travel up to 10 minutes
-
33% said they would travel up to 20 minutes
-
13% said they are willing to travel up to 30 minutes
-
5% said they would travel up to 40 minutes
-
3% said they would travel more than 40 minutes to reach the cheapest supermarket branch
The findings suggest that price considerations play a significant role in consumer behavior ahead of Passover, with a majority of Israelis prepared to spend additional travel time to reduce their holiday grocery expenses.
