A senior income tax official was arrested for questioning on suspicion of bribery

A senior income tax official from the north of the country was arrested this morning for questioning on suspicion of bribery, accepting fraud and breach of trust. Along with him, two tax advisers and an accountant were arrested for not being public servants and two other suspects were detained.
This is a corruption investigation conducted recently by the national unit to combat economic crime "Lahav" 433, which this morning with the arrests became visible. The investigation is being conducted in conjunction with the Tax Authority and the Haifa District Attorney's Office.
According to police suspicion, the IRS, allegedly acted within his duties and received favors to promote the benefit of others in violation of the law. When the suspects were arrested, searches were also conducted in their homes and offices, and during the search hundreds of thousands of shekels were seized.
The police said it would "continue to investigate and uncover wrong processes, in conflict of interest, and to strive and reach wherever there is a suspicion of public corruption that violates governmental and normative citizens."
The tax authority said in response that it would "help the police clear the suspicions."
