A construction worker in Or Akiva fell to his death

Posted on May 10, 2020 by Ifi Reporter - Dan Bielski

On Sunday morning, a construction worker in the Or Yam neighborhood of Or Akiva fell to his death. This is a site where the entrepreneurial company is Housing and Construction and the execution company is Ashtrom. The initial report of the case was received by MDA around 9 p.m. The cause of the fall is unknown at this time, but it is estimated that it was caused during unloading from the mobile crane.
The same site was violently attacked during 2019 by a concrete truck driven by dozens of Chinese workers as they apparently refused their demand to water the concrete.
About a year ago, 3 executives were arrested at an Ashtrom construction site in Bnei Brak on suspicion of causing negligence to die. In the same accident, a 31-year-old Moldova employee was killed when he fell into an elevator shaft at the site on the six-day road. The findings of this investigation have not yet been accepted.
According to Dr. Hadas Tagari, the group's manager for the fight against building and industrial accidents, "the corona epidemic, which resulted in a temporary reduction in activity, did not by no means exaggerate the safety of the construction sites, but only the public attention to eradicate it. As long as the companies that are neglecting to keep their employees safe do not pay a price and continue to do so uninterrupted - the carnage on the sites will not stop. "
The 9th employee killed in the construction industry for 2020. This morning, an employee, a migrant worker from Moldova, was killed in his 30s during a job at a construction site at Ashtrom in Or Akiva. Ashtrom has a very negative reputation in the workplace accidents. In 2017, two employees were killed and another three were seriously injured on sites performed by companies in the Ashtrom Group. In 2019, a worker, also a migrant worker from Moldova, was killed in a work accident at a construction site in Bnei Brak. In recent years, 17 safety orders have been imposed on the company, two of which are in this year, 2020. The period of political instability in Israel has led to a stalemate in many workplace safety policies, while drawing attention to the directive that began to operate, according to which the Accountant General issued a statue of contractors. Two work stoppage orders from participating in government tenders for one year, however, we announced at the end of 2019 that the Treasury is considering changing the directive. We hope that with the establishment of the government, the deadlock will end, and a necessary decision will be made to restore this directive.
