El Al delays by two weeks the renewal of regular passenger flights, until May 16th

Posted on May 1, 2020 by Ifi Reporter - Dan Bielski

El Al delays two weeks of renewal of regular passenger flights, until 16 May. The company will continue to operate cargo flights from Israel to and including the use of 777 passenger planes converted to carry cargo, and will continue to operate special passenger flights as it did on Tuesday, for example when it operated rescue flights to Paris, London and Miami. This is the second extension of the period of regular flights.
El Al discontinued regular flights on March 26, 2020 in view of the significant drop in demand due to the Corona crisis and then set the regular flights renewal date for April 4, but then also postponed the May 2 deadline.
The company is awaiting the decision of the Labor Court judge, Yafit Zalmanovich Gissin, regarding her request to use NIS 115 million of the surplus earned in her employees' pension fund to finance her current activities, including the employment of 700 employees. This is until negotiations with the banks and the state are finalized on providing a state guarantee for a $ 400 million loan that you receive from Discount Bank or National Bank or a group of banks in cooperation with institutional bodies.
