Foreign Minister Israel Katz has agreed with El Al's management to take out a plane that will return on a special flight and for free Israeli travelers staying in Peru, which is under closure following the spread of the Corona virus. The Foreign Ministry is known for a thousand Israelis who want to return to Israel, concentrated mainly in the capital of Lima and Cusco. At present it was agreed to take out a first plane on Thursday, and are now planning to take out a second plane.
"In the activity that I conducted with El Al, the appropriate resources were raised and agreed to take out a first plane by the company on a special flight to Peru to bring them to the country of Israeli young people staying there," said Minister Katz, clarifying:
According to Katz, this decision is a realization of "the principle of mutual guarantee which the State of Israel advocates for national emergencies. Now activities are being organized to obtain financing and issue another aircraft." He thanked El Al for her commitment to the operation.
At midnight tonight (7:00 am Israeli time), a two-week closure, which President Martin Viscara announced as part of the fight against the spread of the Corona virus, took effect. As part of the closure, businesses, shops, tourist sites - and state borders are also closed. The Israelis will return to Israel despite the closure, and the embassy in Lima will take care of the Israeli police escort to the plane in coordination with the local authorities.
Magnus Detective and Rescue Manager, Hilik Magnus said: "The Israelis who are in Peru are not in distress. They are not in danger. All the parties involved are working together to bring them home quickly and peacefully."
