Posted on Mar 1, 2020 by Ifi Reporter - Dan Bielski

A special ministerial committee to examine the economic aspects of the Corona virus outbreak decided to set up a staff at the Ministry of Finance to examine the relevant economic and economic aspects as a result of the virus outbreak. The team will be headed by Treasury Director General Shai Babad, and will be members of the budget head, Shaul Meridor; Accountant General Ronnie Hezekiah; And Treasury Attorney General Asi Messing. The staff will be joined by relevant government ministries, as appropriate and necessary, and will formulate recommendations on the matter and submit them as soon as possible to the committee.
The meeting, which was held in the government's Tel Aviv government, was also attended by the Governor of the Bank of Israel, Prof. Amir Yaron; Minister of Economy, Eli Cohen; Education Minister Rafi Peretz; Minister of Construction and Housing, Yifat Shasha Biton; Agriculture Minister Tzahi Hanegbi; Minister of Tourism, Yariv Levin; Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, Ofir Akunis; Minister of Transport, Bezalel Smutrich; Deputy Finance Minister Yitzhak Cohen; Payroll supervisor Kobe Bar Nathan; Secretary of State Tzahi Braverman; And the Director General of the Prime Minister's Office, Ronen Peretz.
The committee convened to discuss, among other things, a possible compensation mechanism for the aviation and tourism industry. This is one of the country's growing income streams, which is currently hit by the Corona crisis. The main concern is that the damage will increase if the crisis is prolonged, and its damage could cause indirect and direct damages of billions of shekels. Direct revenues to the State of Israel from inbound tourism totaled NIS 22 billion in 2018, and estimates are that in 2019 revenues are higher.
