Deputy State Attorney Dan Eldad: suspicions regarding the "fifth dimension" for criminal investigation

Posted on Feb 20, 2020 by Ifi Reporter - Dan Bielski

Deputy State Attorney Dan Eldad has ordered the issue of suspicions regarding the "fifth dimension" for criminal investigation. The investigation will be carried out by the Israel Police. "As far as this is needed, the Department of Police Investigations in the State Attorney's Office (DIP) will be involved in the investigation," the prosecutor's office said.
Eldad made the decision after examining the documents and reviewing previous opinions written several months ago by the Prosecutor's Office. He held meetings with senior prosecutors. Earlier, Attorney General Mandelblit announced that he had authorized the State Attorney's Office to formulate "the appropriate outline for continuing the matter." So far, the investigation has not raised suspicions against Gantz.
According to Mandelblit, Eldad "studied the material on the subject and heard the attitudes of the relevant attorneys in relation to the various inquiries and materials collected regarding the Fifth Dimension Company." Responding to the Likud's demand that the case be investigated, the court noted that it would be brought to its guidance and decision "as future suspicions differ from those that exist today."
The Fifth Dimension procurement process with the police began in 2016, during which the company received millions of shekels from the police in what was defined as a "defective procedure" without a tender. State Comptroller Yosef Shapiro published a report on the matter, and since then the demand has also begun to be investigated. Yesterday it was announced that Mandelblit will announce after the elections if a police investigation into the matter opens.
Gantz referred to the affair, saying, "I don't know neither scrutiny nor investigation. It all sounds like political pressure to me that brings things to the agenda." He said, "I am completely calm. This issue has been examined in the past and there is no suspicion of the criminal."
