Elbit Systems has won $ 136 million in contracts to supply DIRCM (Direct Infra-Red Counter Measure) laser systems (the Israeli name of the system is a sky shield). The contracts were signed with Asian-Pacific clients and will be executed over a four-year period.
As part of the contracts, Elbit will equip fleets of Airbus and Boeing aircraft with systems including infrared missile alert systems. Elbit's previous contracts for installing DIRCM systems were to install the system on German Air Force Airbus aircraft, as well as on NATO's Airbus fleet.
Elbit's system quickly detects firing missiles at the aircraft and launches a laser beam that neutralizes the missile. It is currently installed on aircraft and helicopters in 15 countries. It was recently announced that the system is also installed on the French President's plane.
"I believe that the latest contract line, from a variety of clients, to the delivery of our mature DIRCM systems, is strong evidence of our existing positioning as a leader in this area," said Elad Aharonson, CEO of Elbit Systems Intelligence.
Elbit, which is managed by Bezalel (Muddy) McLiss, trades on the NASDAQ and Tel Aviv stock exchanges and its market value is $ 6.8 billion
