Over the course of 8 years, the number of credit cards held by a customer in a bank account has increased by about 38%. This is according to a semi-annual report published by the Bank of Israel. Respectively, an increase in the cost of holding tickets increased by 19%. On the other hand, the cost of managing the current account decreased by about 38%.
According to the report, the average monthly cost per household and private banking account in the first half of 2019 amounted to about NIS 26.9 per account - a decrease of about 17% since 2011, following a moderate increase recorded between 2017-2018.
Of the specified amount, NIS 12.6 was charged for managing the current account and obtaining information - this cost included basic banking operations such as cash deposit and withdrawals, bank transfers, etc., performed by a clerk or direct channel, checks, debit authorization, Direct debit, production of standard reports, obtaining information on various channels and locating documents.
The balance of the amount of about NIS 14.3 was charged for possession and use of credit cards. This cost mainly includes the ticket fee, as well as additional costs for foreign currency withdrawals abroad, transactions abroad, etc. The average ticket fee for domestic, international and gold cards amounted to NIS 6.4 per ticket per month.
As of the end of June 2019, the average number of tickets per account was about 1.63, compared with 1.18 in 2011. The banking system's revenue from commissions over the past decade has also been reported to increase by 30% in aggregate activity. The decline is partly due to the fact that during 2019, Isracard and Leumi Card (Max) were separated from the banks as part of the implementation of the law to increase competitiveness and reduce centralization in the banking market in Israel.
