israel is turning the new protocol of ip adresses - IPv6 protocol
Posted on Jan 1, 2020 by Ifi Reporter - Dan Bielski
In recent years, the demand for Internet addresses in the world has increased due to the use of IoT applications and the 5th generation revolution in the mobile world. As a result of the high demand, IPv6 protocol began to be offered worldwide, offering more addresses. Recall, earlier this month, RIPE, which manages the IP addresses of the European space and Israel within it, also announced that no IPv4 addresses remain available for allocation.
About six months ago, the Ministry of Communications informed it must support the new IPv6 communication protocol, and according to the firm's examination, the results are beginning to bear fruit. For example: In November 2019, the protocol implementation jumped from about 5% of the addresses to about 10% of the addresses today - and according to the Ministry of Communications, this figure has fully achieved the firm's annual target and beyond.
The measurement is performed dynamically according to the use of the ISPs, and is carried out by Akamai neutral rating of the major countries and ISPs using the IPv6 protocol.
According to the measurements, Israel is currently in the 55th place (according to the dynamics of the measurement).
To date, the largest Israeli vendor in the field of protocol implementation has been Exponon 018, which was the first to integrate the new technology into its systems, with another major supplier from November 2019 - Hot-Net.
Of the Israeli suppliers that implemented IPv6: Internet grenade with about 84%, Hotnet with about 47.4%, and Exponon-1018 with about 47.2%.
On February 20, 2020, the Communications Ministry will hold a conference aimed at harnessing companies and content sites as part of an extensive move to position the State of Israel at the forefront of technology. The conference will present, among other things, the benefits of switching to IPv6 as well as future prospects for transitioning to advanced technologies in the 5th generation and beyond the "Internet of Everything" situation.
