The Bank of Israel's Supervisor of Banks, Hedva Bar, prepares for her retirement in three months and will retire in April 2020 instead of July 2020 at the end of five years.
Bar took office in July 2015 and asked Bank of Israel Governor Prof. Amir Yaron to advance her retirement for several months. Bar's resignation announcement comes at an excellent time in which she recorded a big victory in support of the merger of Mizrahi Bank and Union Bank in the face of Finance Minister Moshe Kahlon's protest against the merger after the Antitrust Court overturned the Competition Authority's decision to oppose the merger between the two banks.

Bar has come to oversee the banks from a senior position at Bank Leumi as the Bank's risk manager and may return after a year of cooling to the business sector. During her tenure, she was criticized by the Cable Committee for Investigating Credit to Capital Owners by the banks whose conclusions put the most criticism of the banking system's credit failures on regulation.
Dr. Hedva Bar: "I am fulfilling my role with a sense of satisfaction in light of the fact that we have promoted many infrastructure changes whose fruits and households and businesses have already begun to feel, and some of them will gradually mature and be felt in the coming years. At the same time, we have strengthened the capabilities of the Banking and Banking Supervisors themselves in managing the emerging new risks, most notably cyber and technology risks. "
Governor of the Bank of Israel, Prof. Amir Yaron: "I thank Dr. Hedva Barr for her tenure as Supervisor of Banks. Hedva worked during a formative period in terms of the banking system while maintaining its stability and promoting its competition and innovation. "
