The District Planning and Building Committee approved the outline plan for the city of Givat Shmuel. This is a plan that outlines principles and long-term policy for the planning and development of the city in the coming years. The plan includes an additional 5,600 housing units that will meet the target of 55,000 residents, bringing the total number of housing units to 16,000. Today, the city's population is 26,000. In addition, the plan includes an open urban area of approximately 485 dunams and employment and commercial areas of 937,000 square meters.
Givat Shmuel is bordered by Bnei Brak and Ramat Gan to the west, Kiryat Ono to the south and Petah Tikva to the east and north. The most prominent advantage of the city is accessibility to national roads - to the south (471), to the west (4), and to the east (via Rabin).
According to the updated plan, the existing employment centers along Highway 4 will be expanded, and in the eastern part of the city next to Rabin Road, additional employment areas will be allocated. The plan also creates a new urban center around Hanasi Street, which includes a mix of uses - housing, employment and commerce, and a special axis with employment and trade centers that connects Bar-Ilan University to the Ramat-Aviv employment area in Petah Tikva.
The head of the regional committee, Shira Brand, added: "The plan takes full advantage of the unique location of the city in the center of the country, close to national roads,
light rail. The plan ensures that Givat Shmuel will serve as an important economic anchor in the area, which will enable investment in quality development and significant urban renewal. "
