The unions eclared a general labor dispute in the public sector

Posted on Jun 16, 2019 by Ifi Reporter - Dan Bielski

On Sunday, the Histadrut declared a general labor dispute in the public sector, as it had not yet received approval from the Ministry of Finance to postpone the pension cuts of pensioners insured by the old funds. The conflict applies, among other things, to government ministries and administrative units, the Center for Local Government and governmental hospitals. The Teachers Union also joined the conflict.
About a week and a half ago, Minister of Labor and Social Affairs Haim Katz announced that after discussions with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Finance Minister Moshe Kahlon and the Finance Ministry's Commissioner for Capital Market, Insurance and Savings, Dr. Moshe Barkat, it was decided to cancel the cuts, To be implemented at the beginning of next month, and was planned to reach a rate of 1.259%, which amounts to approximately NIS 1,000 per year.
Histadrut chairman Arnon Bar-David said at a meeting of the committee for coordination and implementation that approved the labor dispute that "we will not be fooled by false promises. I am still waiting for the official document from the head of the capital market, who rejects the deadline for the cut in pension payments from July 1. If such a document is not received as soon as possible, we will apply the declared labor dispute. "
The move to reduce pensioners' pensions is the result of the heavy deficits that have accumulated due to the failure to raise the retirement age of women from 62 to 64, as previously agreed. Today, the funds are in deficit of NIS 5 billion, which is raised by 200 million a year.
