Air Pollution Reduction Program in the Haifa Bay: 56% reduction in emissions

Posted on Jun 10, 2019 by Ifi Reporter - Dan Bielski

Air Pollution Reduction Program in the Haifa Bay: Implementing the requirements of the Ministry of Environmental Protection led to a 56% reduction in emissions of volatile organic substances from the industry, even beyond the target set in the Haifa Bay program. The results of the creation of a "clean air" zone from emissions of polluting diesel vehicles are already evident in the field: 20% of soot concentrations in the lower city were reduced in the first year of operation

A clean air area has been established in the city, restricting the entry of polluting diesel vehicles into residential areas in Haifa - the first in Israel, and similar to hundreds of European cities - a reduction of about 20% in soot concentrations in the lower city. We promoted alternative and cleaner transportation in Haifa: 25 electric buses are operated in Haifa; 20 garbage trucks driven by compressed natural gas are operated as part of municipal municipal garbage trucks; And an array of 100 electric cooperative vehicles - the first in Israel. Environmental and health monitoring capabilities were improved: We added 47 environmental monitoring devices in Haifa of various air pollutants and two mobile monitoring stations; Multiply the number of environmental sampling points to 8; And increased the number of pollutants sampled in the environment from 14 to 86.
