An officer in a paratrooper patrol was killed this morning (Monday) and six fighters were injured when a missile was fired from an IDF fighter jet at a building where the force was staying in Khan Yunis. The deceased is Lieutenant Shahar Ben Nun, 21 years old from Petach Tikva.
The plane launched the missile at a target but missed it by about 300 meters, and hit an apartment next to the one where the force was staying in the building, causing part of it to collapse. The Air Force says that this is not human error but rather a rare technical malfunction in this type of missile, and for now it is not clear what caused it.
Ben Nun left behind his parents and three brothers. He studied at the school named after Ehud Manor and also at the school named after Janosz Korchak, and played basketball.
Earlier, the IDF announced that Anti-Rov Mahmoud Amaria, 45 years old from Avtin who served as a tracker in Utzbat Bar'am, was killed by an unmanned aerial vehicle explosion in Moshav Yaara in the Western Galilee. An officer was also seriously injured in the incident, and according to the Galilee Medical Center in Nahariya, he was hit by shrapnel.
