Sergeant Major Ran Yaebetz lost his life in an operational accident

Posted on May 16, 2024 by Ifi Reporter - Dan Bielski

This morning, tragedy struck in the Gaza Strip as a reservist, Sergeant Major Ran Yaebetz, lost his life in an operational accident at the Black Arrow monument. The Israeli army confirmed that Yaebetz, a fighter in the 6828th patrol battalion within the 828th brigade, was fatally injured by a munitions explosion on site.

Yaebetz, aged 39 and hailing from Modi'in, leaves behind his pregnant wife Tamar Malol, their children Itay, Nega, and Or, as well as his parents Avraham and Yehudit.

A graduate of Ironi High School A and a passionate supporter of Maccabi Tel Aviv, Yaebetz's sudden demise has deeply saddened his community. Mayor of Modi'in-Maccabim-Reot Haim Bibbs expressed condolences to the Yeavetz family and announced that the funeral will be held tonight at 11:00 PM in the military section of the city's cemetery.

This tragic incident comes on the heels of another devastating loss, with five soldiers from the 202nd Battalion of the Parachute Brigade falling victim to tank fire in the Jabaliya refugee camp yesterday. The soldiers, identified as Captain Roi Beit Ya'akov, Sergeant Gilad Aryeh Boim, Sergeant Daniel Hamo, Sergeant Ilan Cohen, and Sergeant Bezalel David Shashua, were mistakenly targeted by tanks during operations.

The series of fatalities underscores the inherent risks faced by military personnel engaged in operations, highlighting the toll of conflict in the region and the profound sacrifices made by those in service.
