EasyJet Cancels Israel Flights Amid Security Concerns until October

Posted on Apr 16, 2024 by Ifi Reporter - Dan Bielski

Just before Passover, the British low-cost giant EasyJet is canceling its flights from Israel to destinations throughout Europe until April 21. The background for the decision is the development of the security situation in Israel, when yesterday morning hundreds of missiles and UAVs were launched towards it from Iran in an attempt to hit military targets throughout the country.

Most of the missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles were successfully intercepted. Israel's airspace was closed near the beginning of the Iranian attack and reopened yesterday morning.
The meaning of EasyJet's decision is the cancellation of thousands of flight tickets of Israeli passengers to a series of destinations including Great Britain, Switzerland, Italy and more that they intended to reach during the Passover holiday. Officially, the suspension of its activities in Israel will last until the 21st of the month, but nevertheless it will not be possible to purchase plane tickets from it before the beginning of May. EasyJet resumed its operations in Israel towards the end of last March. She is expected to inform her agents and clients from Israel about the cancellation of their flights during April in the coming days.
EasyJet stated in response that "Due to the developing situation in Israel, the company has decided to temporarily suspend operations to and from Tel Aviv until April 21. Customers whose flights are affected by this, received messages via text messages and email according to the details provided at the time of booking. The safety and security of passengers and crew are always the company's top priority."
Earlier this month, the lowcost giant Rainier announced the resumption of its operations in Israel as of June 2, a day after Terminal 1 at Ben Gurion Airport resumed operations, after it was stopped with the start of the war in Gaza. According to data from the Airports Authority (Rashat), over 44,000 passengers on 267 outgoing and incoming international flights will pass through the airport today.
