In a significant shift of leadership, Shachar Turgeman has been elected as the new president of the Union of Chambers of Commerce, replacing the retiring president, Uriel Lin, who has served in the role for 22 years.

Uriel Lin, a prominent figure in both legal and governmental spheres, celebrated his 89th birthday last week and bid farewell to his longstanding tenure as president. Lin, who previously held positions such as commissioner of state revenues at the Ministry of Finance and chairman of the Knesset's Constitution Committee, leaves behind a legacy of dedication to the business community.

Turgeman's Election Victory:

  • Turgeman, currently serving as the chairman of the board of the Brill Group and the chairman of the association of fashion and catering chains, emerged victorious in the elections held today.
  • He secured 304 votes, defeating his opponent, Amir Shani, who garnered 267 votes. Shani, the chairman of the Customs Agents' Corporate Organization and the former vice president of the Union of Chambers of Commerce, faced a close contest but ultimately fell short in the race for presidency.
  • Yesterday, a farewell event was held for outgoing president Uriel Lin, drawing the attendance of numerous current and former business leaders.
  • Dobi Amitai, president of the business sector, Ron Tomer, president of the Association of Manufacturers, and other distinguished figures such as former finance minister Moshe Nissim and former Bank of Israel governor Prof. Yaakov Frankel, gathered to honor Lin's contributions.
  • Shachar Turgeman expressed pride in his election victory, emphasizing the desire for change voiced by members of the Chambers of Commerce. He pledged to lead the bureau with a focus on collaboration and advancement.

  • Uriel Lin, in his farewell remarks, highlighted the unity and collective efforts of the organization during his tenure. He extended congratulations to Turgeman and expressed confidence in his ability to continue the Chamber's endeavors.

The transition in leadership marks a new chapter for the Union of Chambers of Commerce, as Turgeman assumes the presidency with a vision for progress and collaboration within the business community.
