Captain Daniel Peretz, 22 years old from Mid Binyamin, fell in battle on October 7, and his body is being held by Hamas in the Gaza Strip - this was allowed to be published today. Peretz was a platoon commander in the 77th battalion of the "Saar Megolan" formation. The Rabbi determined his death after examining all the findings and based on reliable information. The findings that were located allow, according to the Halacha, to bring Peretz to burial.
Daniel was born in South Africa and when he was 13 his family immigrated to Israel. Immigrating to Israel brought Daniel even closer to his older brother, Yonatan, who is two years older than him, and a special and deep bond was formed between the two - according to his relatives. "About two weeks after Daniel was kidnapped by the terrorist organization Hamas, his brother, Yonatan, stood under the canopy and did not stop thinking about his younger brother. He repeated and said: 'I can't believe that Daniel is not here. I can't believe it.'"
"Daniel is a young man full of life, surrounded by friends and loves extreme sports. He likes to run and is always in shape. A big brother who likes to spend time and laugh with his younger sisters. He is funny, smart and always there to help those who need it.
His parents, Doron and Shelley, his brother and two sisters are waiting to see him again with them at home"
The father and sister of Daniel Peretz spoke yesterday at a rally in the "Karhat Hatofim" square. "I appeal to the government of Israel: there is no more simple and clear contract between a government and its leaders and its citizens. 164 days and still 134 abductees. All humanitarian, return them all now," Father Doron said. "I am turning to the President of the United States: I appreciate your standing by our side in the most difficult moments for us since the Holocaust, but I am turning to you regarding the humanitarian move. A humanitarian move is the most important, 134 of the children, parents and grandparents are in Gaza and they must return unconditionally, no conditions should be placed About human trafficking and kidnapping, this is something that we as Jews are obligated to return as a humanitarian move. Each and every one of the abductees who were taken from their cradles, from their beds, in defense of their people, must return unconditionally."
Oz Hazan, Daniel's friend from the yeshiva, said that he "bonded with everyone very quickly when he immigrated to Israel and arrived at the yeshiva. He knew how to love certain things and nurture them, whether when he went out in Katsuna and talked about it all the time, or in high school with the sports he loved so much. He knew how to take them forward More than an ordinary person, his hobbies. He was a Liverpool football fan, went water skiing. Most of us were already discharged, but he stayed to be an officer. He had deals here and there but he really liked his job, the tank, loved being a commander His soldiers were important to him.
"The last contact with him was around 09:30 when he went up in front of his MP and since then they lost contact with him. They left the outpost, climbed a dome, saw that terrorists were coming, retreated back and fought from the outpost. Until now, when they said he was killed on October 7, they didn't know exactly what happened," he added. "I believed he was alive to this day. He was an amazing kid."
