Unilever Postpones Planned Price Increases for Ice Cream and Chocolate Products

Posted on Feb 18, 2024 by Ifi Reporter - Dan Bielski

Unilever has decided to postpone the price increases it had previously planned, notably for its ice cream and chocolate products, until after the holidays. The decision comes following discussions with the Ministry of Economy, wherein Unilever agreed to freeze the planned price hike in response to the Ministry's request.

Unilever had initially intended to raise prices on various popular items, including Strauss ice cream products like Cornetto, Temakor, Goodies, Time Out ice cream snacks, Bomba, as well as Rose HaGalil chocolate and Click snacks. The proposed increase was slated to range from 4.7% to 15%.

Economy Minister Nir Barkat, in collaboration with Unilever CEO Gem Trick Yoxel, negotiated for the postponement of the price hike, emphasizing the importance of stabilizing prices during challenging times. Consequently, Unilever has committed not to increase prices until at least October 1st, aligning with the duration of the state of emergency in Israel.

Moreover, Unilever has pledged to bolster sales through promotions and discounts in preparation for upcoming holidays such as Purim, Passover, and Independence Day.

As a result of these agreements, Unilever will be removed from the black list and included in the green list of companies that have frozen prices during the ongoing circumstances. The Ministry of Economy emphasizes its commitment to monitoring compliance with these agreements and warns that any company found violating them will face repercussions.

This decision marks a proactive step by Unilever to support consumers during uncertain times, reflecting a collaborative effort between the company and governmental authorities to ensure economic stability and consumer welfare.
