President Herzog Urges US Universities to Condemn Hamas Massacre and Combat Anti-Semitism
Posted on Nov 7, 2023 by Ifi Reporter - Dan Bielski
Israeli President Yitzhak Herzog has called on the presidents of universities and colleges across the United States to condemn the massacre committed by Hamas on October 7 and to take a strong stance against anti-Semitism on their campuses.
In a letter sent to approximately 700 academic institutions, President Herzog expressed his concerns regarding the escalating manifestations of anti-Semitism and physical and verbal attacks against Jewish students since the start of the conflict.
President Herzog's letter demanded that university leaders address students who support Hamas actions and emphasized that the anti-Semitic incidents occurring on campuses were a "disgrace to the university institution and a desecration of its basic principles." He further urged the presidents to establish dedicated teams to combat anti-Semitism and develop comprehensive campus and institutional action plans.
The call from President Herzog comes in response to the recent surge in anti-Semitic incidents and the tragic events involving Hamas. It highlights the need for universities to take a strong stance against hate and work to ensure the safety and well-being of all their students.
As the situation continues to develop, the world watches to see how American universities will respond to President Herzog's appeal, and whether they will take proactive steps to combat anti-Semitism on their campuses.
