Tax Authority Director Extends Deadline for Gaza Strip Aid Grant Applications
Posted on Nov 2, 2023 by Ifi Reporter - Dan Bielski
Tax Authority Director Shay Ahronovitz has decided to exercise his authority under Government Decision 988 by extending the application deadline for aid grants intended to support residents of the Gaza Strip. The application deadline has been pushed back to December 15.
The grant is designed to provide assistance to evacuees who were forced to leave their homes due to the rapid evacuation process. Each eligible individual can receive a grant of NIS 1,000, with families eligible for up to NIS 5,000 in total. To qualify for this grant, residents of the Ofat living within a 0 to 7 km radius from the Gaza Strip, who were evacuated or left their homes starting from October 7, can apply.
The application process is straightforward and quick. A member of the family submits an online application on behalf of the entire family unit. Children above the age of 18, even if they reside with their parents, must submit separate grant applications. The Tax Authority processes these applications within three business days of submission.
As of now, the Tax Authority has disbursed NIS 56 million to 26 thousand families. It's important to note that this grant does not serve as compensation for property damage caused to residents of the surrounding area and will not be deducted from any compensation amounts owed.
Furthermore, starting next Monday, individuals will have the opportunity to apply for an independent housing grant for evacuees through the National Insurance website. This grant provides NIS 18,000 per month for a family consisting of a couple with two children. Residents who left their homes or were relocated for rehabilitation in line with government decisions since the onset of the conflict can opt for independent housing and receive this grant.
The grant amount will be NIS 200 per day for eligible adults and NIS 100 per day for eligible children, following the established eligibility periods in each decision. The agreement outlines the criteria for grant eligibility, the payment process, and its funding through the State Treasury via the National Insurance Institute.
