Escalation of Conflict in Israel-Lebanon Border Region: mortar bombs were fired to Israel

Posted on Oct 8, 2023 by Ifi Reporter - Dan Bielski

Approximately 25 hours into the ongoing conflict, mortar bombs were fired earlier today from southern Lebanon towards Mount Dov, near the Israel-Lebanon border. In response, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) launched artillery attacks targeting the source of the mortar fire within Lebanese territory.

The IDF spokesperson affirmed their readiness for various scenarios in all sectors and reiterated their commitment to protecting the security of Israeli residents.

Reports from Lebanon indicate that the IDF is conducting military operations against the Rawaisat al-Alam site, situated near the village of Shuba, using artillery shells.

Amidst these developments, a daring rescue operation was executed tonight to free hostages held by terrorists in two separate locations. In Kibbutz Bari, security forces successfully eliminated several terrorists after a prolonged firefight, securing the hostages who were trapped in the dining room. In the town of Ofakim, Israeli forces stormed a house where two hostages were being held and neutralized the terrorists responsible.

Additionally, in the city of Sderot, police regained control of the police station following a grueling 20-hour battle. A "pressure cooker" procedure was employed, involving the use of bulldozers, shoulder-fired missiles, and a tank. During this operation, a total of 10 terrorists were killed at the police station.

The situation along the Israel-Lebanon border remains tense, with both sides involved in military engagements. The IDF's response to mortar attacks signifies an escalation in the conflict, raising concerns about the potential for further violence in the region. We will continue to provide updates on this developing story as more information becomes available.
