Elbit Systems Secures $115 Million Tank Ammunition Contract Following Ukraine War
Posted on Oct 1, 2023 by Ifi Reporter - Dan Bielski
In the wake of the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, Elbit Systems, led by Mickey Federman, is reaping the benefits of the increased demand for its defense products by NATO countries. The Israeli defense company has recently clinched a $115 million contract to supply tank ammunition to a European nation. The contract, scheduled for the next three years, also includes provisions to expand the scope of the supply.
Udi Ward, CEO of Elbit Land Systems, hailed this decision by another NATO member to equip its tanks with 120mm ammunition as a significant vote of confidence in the company's ammunition portfolio. The Ukraine war has significantly expanded Elbit Systems' footprint in Europe and accelerated the growth of its order backlog. With this latest contract, the volume of orders secured by Elbit Systems in Europe has surged to $519 million in less than a month.
Under the guidance of Bezalel Machlis, Elbit Systems has also won two substantial contracts from a European country totaling $200 million. These contracts involve the supply of command, control, communication, computer, and intelligence (C4I) infrastructure to artillery battalions, as well as an offensive system against hostile fire (HFCA). Additionally, the company secured a $109 million contract for providing spur arrow systems for the active protection of armored combat vehicles and a $95 million contract for the supply of SkyStriker-type roving munitions to another European nation. These contracts are slated for execution until 2026, with options for further extensions.
The looming threat of the Ukraine conflict spreading to other European countries, particularly among NATO members, has driven up demand for Israeli defense industry products. Elbit Systems' revenues for the first half of 2023 surged by an impressive 63% compared to the same period in 2022, reaching a total of $833 million. Excluding the remarkable surge in European activity, Elbit Systems experienced a 6% decrease in revenues for the first half of 2023 compared to 2022, settling at $2.01 billion.
As tensions in Europe persist, Elbit Systems continues to play a vital role in meeting the heightened demand for advanced defense solutions, cementing its position as a leading player in the global defense industry.
