Leading cybersecurity firm Check Point has recently announced its acquisition of Israeli start-up Atmosec in a deal of undisclosed value, speculated to be in the millions. Atmosec, a budding cybersecurity company in its early stages of development, boasts a team of 17 talented employees who will now become integral parts of Check Point's expanding workforce.
Founded in 2021 by Aner Gelman, Shaked Gitelman, and Misha Seltzer, Atmosec had garnered approximately $6 million in funding thus far. The company specializes in safeguarding Software as a Service (SaaS) applications, a crucial aspect of modern cybersecurity.
Atmosec's innovative technology offers a range of protective measures, including identifying and disconnecting malicious applications upon installation. It also prevents unauthorized third-party applications from accessing and communicating with various SaaS products utilized by customers. Additionally, the company addresses security vulnerabilities within applications, such as rectifying the absence of two-step authentication for software access.
Check Point has ambitious plans for integrating Atmosec's cutting-edge solutions into its existing product lineup, particularly its comprehensive product offering known as Infinity, which is widely marketed to its client base.
This acquisition marks a significant move for Check Point, which traditionally avoids major acquisitions despite having substantial cash reserves. At the close of the second quarter of this year, after a $325 million share buyback program, Check Point reported cash and cash equivalents totaling $3.5 billion.
Less than a month ago, Check Point made headlines with its acquisition of cybersecurity company Perimeter 81 for a substantial $490 million, marking its largest purchase in two years since the acquisition of Avanan for $270 million.
Check Point's acquisition of Atmosec underscores its commitment to strengthening its cybersecurity portfolio and addressing evolving threats in the digital landscape. As cyberattacks continue to grow in sophistication, the company aims to stay at the forefront of cybersecurity innovation to protect its customers' digital assets effectively.
