Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure Greenlights 60% Expansion in Natural Gas Supply from Tamar Reservoir

Posted on Aug 23, 2023 by Ifi Reporter - Dan Bielski

Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure has taken steps to accelerate the expansion of natural gas supply from the Tamar reservoir. The ministry's professionals estimate that this expansion will increase production by about 60%, ensuring a stable supply of natural gas for the local economy until at least 2048.

The expansion plan is currently awaiting final approval from the reservoir's partnership, marking a pivotal moment in Israel's energy strategy.

Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, MK Israel Katz, expressed his enthusiasm for the project: "With a steadfast commitment to securing our nation's energy needs, I have given my approval for the augmentation of natural gas exports to Egypt via the Tamar reservoir. This landmark decision not only promises to boost our state's revenues but also cements the strong diplomatic ties between Israel and Egypt. I commend Prime Minister Netanyahu and former minister Steinitz for their dedication to harnessing this underwater resource. I am resolute in my pursuit of utilizing it for the betterment of every Israeli citizen."

The envisioned expansion entails the installation of a third transmission line connecting the Tamar wells to the production rig. In addition, the production system will undergo comprehensive upgrades to enhance efficiency and output. These strategic enhancements are poised to fortify Israel's energy infrastructure and foster sustainable economic growth.

Pending the partnership's final investment decision, the expansion project holds the potential to significantly bolster the nation's energy landscape. By leveraging the Tamar reservoir's resources, Israel can cater to its domestic energy demands while nurturing valuable international relationships.

As the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure spearheads this ambitious endeavor, all eyes are on the forthcoming developments that will shape the nation's energy future and its position in the global energy arena.
