Enlight Renewable Energy Secures Second PPA for Massive Co Bar Solar Project

Posted on Aug 1, 2023 by Ifi Reporter - Dan Bielski

Enlight Renewable Energy, a leading renewable energy company, made headlines today with the signing of a second Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Salt River Project (SRP), the largest electricity supplier in metropolitan Phoenix, serving around 1.1 million customers.

This second PPA solidifies Enlight's position in the Arizona energy market, adding 475 megawatts of capacity to the previously signed agreement of 480 megawatts. Together, these agreements complete an impressive 1 gigawatt in front of SRP.

The Co Bar Solar project, set to be one of the largest in the United States, boasts an impressive solar capacity of 1.2 gigawatts, supported by an additional 824 megawatt-hours of energy storage. This significant storage capacity ensures consistent power supply, even during periods of low sunlight, further enhancing the reliability of the renewable energy provided by the project.

Construction for the Co Bar Solar project is scheduled to commence in the fourth quarter of 2023, with commercial operations expected to roll out in stages throughout 2025. Once fully operational, the project is projected to deliver green electricity to approximately 180,000 households, making a substantial contribution to reducing the region's carbon footprint.

One of the most notable aspects of this ambitious project is its environmental impact. By producing renewable energy and reducing reliance on traditional fossil fuel-based power sources, the Co Bar Solar project is estimated to save an impressive 1.8 million tons of CO2 emissions annually. This significant reduction in greenhouse gas emissions aligns with global efforts to combat climate change and promotes a sustainable energy future.

The announcement of the second PPA has had an immediate and positive impact on Enlight Renewable Energy's performance on the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange. Following the news, the company's stock witnessed a remarkable surge, with a notable increase of about 2.3% within just two hours of trading. This boost in investor confidence reflects the market's enthusiasm for the company's strategic expansion and commitment to renewable energy solutions.

With the Co Bar Solar project representing a major milestone for Enlight Renewable Energy, the company is well-positioned to play a key role in the ongoing transition towards a greener and more sustainable energy landscape. As the project progresses, all eyes will be on the company's continued growth and its contribution to a cleaner and brighter future.
