Strauss Company Freezes Advertising on Channel 14 Following Offensive Statements

Posted on Jul 31, 2023 by Ifi Reporter - Dan Bielski

Strauss company has announced an immediate advertising freeze on Channel 14, which is owned by Yitzhak Mirilishvili. The decision comes in response to the channel repeatedly broadcasting offensive statements in its programs.

The company conveyed its stance in a letter to the channel, stating that they are freezing advertising until Channel 14 demonstrates compliance with the company's ethics charter. Only when the channel meets the required ethical standards will Strauss consider resuming advertising with them.

The controversy escalated when Ari Shamai, a panelist on the program "The Patriots," made a controversial statement during a discussion about the Tiberias case at the High Court. Shamai, who was formerly the lawyer of Yigal Amir, the murderer of Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin, called for Amir's release from prison. He argued that personnel laws were unjustly applied to Amir, indicating it was time for the assassin's release.

The statement sparked outrage among the public and raised concerns about the channel's editorial decisions and content. Consequently, Strauss decided to take a decisive step and halt advertising on the channel until it demonstrates a commitment to promoting ethical programming.

This move by the Strauss company highlights the increasing importance of ethical broadcasting in the media industry. It serves as a reminder to media outlets to exercise responsible journalism and refrain from broadcasting offensive or harmful content.

The situation has drawn significant attention from various stakeholders, and the fate of Channel 14's advertising revenue now hangs on its ability to address the concerns raised by Strauss and ensure adherence to ethical guidelines. As the situation unfolds, many are watching closely to see how the channel will respond to this development and what measures it will take to regain the confidence of advertisers and the public.
