Eged Company Inspector of Ethiopian Origin Files Defamation Lawsuit Against Passenger Over Racist Incident

Posted on Jul 25, 2023 by Ifi Reporter - Dan Bielski

Eged company inspector of Ethiopian origin has taken legal action against a female passenger who subjected her to racist and offensive language while she was performing her duties. The incident occurred during a routine inspection with another colleague, during which the passenger allegedly hurled racist expletives at the inspector, including derogatory terms and offensive remarks.

According to the lawsuit filed by attorney Moti Kristal, the passenger insulted the inspector with racial slurs, demeaning her based on her ethnicity and appearance. The passenger reportedly told her to "go back to Ethiopia" and made offensive comments about her appearance, suggesting she needed to wear earrings to be more noticeable.

The incident did not end there, as the inspector decided to remove herself from the situation and continue her job. However, the same passenger was present at the scene when the inspector disembarked from another bus later on. Upon seeing the inspector again, the passenger resumed her verbal assault, forcing the inspector to seek police intervention.

Attorney Moti Crystal, who specializes in tort law and represents the plaintiff, condemned the incident as outrageous and sickening. He emphasized that his client was merely carrying out her duties when she was met with racially charged abuse, reminiscent of darker times. Crystal also commended the Israel Police for their swift response, sending an officer to document the incident.

Racism and discrimination have no place in society, and incidents like these highlight the importance of addressing and combatting such behaviors. The lawsuit seeks to hold the passenger accountable for her actions and send a message that racial slurs and bigotry will not be tolerated.

As the legal process unfolds, many hope that this case will serve as a precedent in discouraging racist behavior and promoting a more inclusive and respectful society.
