The data of the Central Bureau of Statistics regarding the employment of managers in the education system in the last year are already here, and they present an interesting picture. According to the data, in the last year the number of administrators in the system was 4,233 administrators, 2,730 of them in elementary education and the rest in secondary education.
It was also found that the number of managers increased in the years 2011-2023 by 1,010 managers, at an annual rate of change of 2.3% on average per year. Also, during these years, 5,662 new managers were added at the end of an annual change of 1.7% on average. This year in particular, 476 new managers were added to the system. On the other hand, in 2015, 407 administrators left their positions, most of them from elementary education.
On top of that, in the decade between 2009-2019, about 3.3% of the senior managers left their position, and 6.1% left the system in general. On the other hand, 11.2% of the new managers left the position and 3.3% left the system in general.
A positive trend is the one that shows that there is an increasing trend in the percentage of women managing the system. In the years 2020-2023, the percentage of female managers in primary education increased by 2.2% and in secondary education by 19.1%. At the same time, in those years the percentage of managers aged 55 and over increased.
Other interesting data show that in the excellent years the number of administrators in ultra-orthodox education increased by 70%. In state education it increased by 24% and in state-religious education by 32%. In Arab education, the figure rose to 84%. Also, managers today have to face more challenges and some of them are presented in the report. For example, today the average number of teachers per principal is about 43, but in 1999 it was 35. Also, today the average number of classes per principal has increased from 16.5 to 19.1.
An increase was also recorded in the salaries of managers. In the years 2010-2020, the average salary for a full-time position increased by more than 4.5 thousand shekels for elementary teachers, and by almost 7.5 thousand shekels for upper elementary teachers.
