The startup Tomorrow.io announced the raising of an additional 87 million dollars

Posted on Jun 15, 2023 by Ifi Reporter - Dan Bielski

The startup Tomorrow.io, which promises more accurate weather forecasting, announced yesterday (Wednesday) the raising of an additional 87 million dollars. According to the database PitchBook, until the round announced today, Tomorrow.io raised an amount of 230 million dollars. The fundraising was led by the American fund Activate Capital and the Israeli Pitango Fund, an existing investor of Tomorrow.io, also participated in it.
The start-up announced the recruitment, which is not known when it was actually completed, at the same time as the announcement of the launch of the company's second climate satellite, R-2, into space aboard Elon Musk's SpaceX spacecraft. The company's first satellite was launched into space in April.
The Tomorrow.io company was founded in Boston in 2016 by three Israeli entrepreneurs: Itai Zlotnik, Rai Gofer and Shimon Elkabats (CEO). The company operates a development center in Israel.
In the first version, the company was called ClimaCell and aimed to use cellular network sites to predict the weather with greater accuracy. The cellular data was to be integrated together with information coming from sensors in various IoT (Internet of Things) devices.
In December 2021, during the height of the bubble in the technology industry, Tomorrow.io announced its intention to enter Wall Street through a Spak merger. Tomorrow.io dreamed of raising up to $420 million and an estimated value of $1.2 billion, after money. However, as early as March 2022, the company announced the cancellation of the plan, probably in light of a significant cooling in the markets and the increased regulation on SPAK mergers. The recruitment announced by Tomorrow.io today is actually the first announced by it since the cancellation of the spike.
Tomorrow.io's customers include airlines such as Delta and United Airlines, Uber, Google Cloud and the US Air Force.
