The Water Authority announced today (Thursday) the update of water rates as of July 1, 2023, within which they will increase by 3.08%, following a change in the basket of indices that determines the first half of 2023.
The update is carried out automatically in accordance with the provisions of the Water Law, which requires updating the rate once a year. The tariff consists of the consumer price index (85%), the wage index (10%), and the electricity tariff (5%).
Starting this July, the water rate including VAT for the quantity sold (the lower rate) will be NIS 7.897 per cubic meter (instead of NIS 7.661 per cubic meter), while the rate for any additional quantity (the higher rate) will be NIS 14.494 per cubic meter (instead of NIS 14.061 per cubic meter).
The change in the water rate represents an addition of about NIS 5 to the average monthly water and sewage bill of a family of four that consumes about 16 cubic meters per month.
The water rate increased by 3.5% last January, and decreased by 2.7% in April to NIS 7,661 per cubic meter, mainly thanks to a NIS 50 million dividend received from the Mekorot company. in the Economic Committee about a month ago, and said that the water tariff "will move with inflation".
