About 100 headquarters employees at Strauss will be laid off

Posted on Nov 9, 2022 by Ifi Reporter

About 100 headquarters employees at Strauss will be laid off as part of the efficiency plan the company is undergoing against the background of inflation and the damage to profitability, and as part of a structural change it is making, or as it wrote in a press release, "flattening the organization and reducing management layers in order to strengthen flexibility, efficiency and organizational effectiveness."
From now on, personnel activity and finances that were under each of the managers of the various business divisions in Strauss Israel: sweets, dairy, salads, coffee, water and sabra, will be provided centrally by the group headquarters, operations and logistics will also be removed from the responsibility of the managers of the above activities and will be concentrated in one division.
The move has a direct impact on the status of the managers of the business divisions, and the CEO of Strauss Israel. On the other hand, the power of the new CEO of the Strauss Group, Shai Babad, former CEO of the Ministry of Finance, who will take up his position on December 1st, will strengthen and he will control on the group from above.
Also, for the first time, a person responsible for quality and safety will be appointed at the group's headquarters level, as a result of the salmonella case, which revealed deficiencies in food safety at the plant in Nazareth. The position will be filled by Ronan Zahar, who serves as Deputy CEO of the Strauss Group. Elad Komisar, who was responsible for the coffee, was appointed Vice President of Strategy and Development. The savings that will be achieved as a result of the consolidation of the activities are estimated at approximately NIS 65-80 million per year.
Strauss will focus its growth in the coming years on the United States, Brazil and China, and it intends to make new acquisitions, some with existing partners. In Israel Strauss is in a problem because it is restricted by the competition authority in acquiring new activities.
The company believes that growth will be organic and in the field of innovation. For this purpose, a new unit "Neo Strauss" will be established, which will invest directly in innovative activities, alongside the activities of the Kitchen Incubator, where Strauss has a partner - the Innovation Authority.
CEO of the Strauss Group, Giora Bar Dea: "The world is moving and we are with it. The world view now is to concentrate knowledge and excellence. The plan includes moves to promote sustainable growth which will be achieved, among other things, through targeting and investments in selected geographies where we will continue to develop a competitive advantage, entry into new business models, expansion of existing partnerships, continued investment in foodtech and building excellence in core areas. Along with this, the plan includes an adjustment of the operating model and the implementation of efficiencies in accordance with the changing reality and challenges in the economic environment. We direct resources to areas of growth while making efficiencies in places where it is right to create synergies."
