September: Decrease of about 5,100 people (3.2%) in the number of job seekers

The employment service data published on Sunday morning shows that in September there was a decrease of about 5,100 people (3.2%) in the number of job seekers, which was 150,700. The presumed reason: the return to work of those laid off this summer, which mainly affected the ultra-orthodox sector and the employees of elementary and pre-primary education, the childcare workers, and the teachers' assistants.
The most significant decrease (3,400 people - about two-thirds of the total decrease) was recorded among the ultra-orthodox sector, whose proportion of the total number of job seekers last month was 2.2% lower compared to August. For example, the proportion of ultra-Orthodox job seekers in Bnei Brak dropped by 34.1% last month.
The data also shows that contrary to the trend of the last few months, in which there was a consistent decrease in the extreme clusters (1-3 and 8-10), in September these clusters split in their movements - where while the lower clusters recorded a decrease of 1.6%, the higher clusters actually recorded an increase of 1 %.
As for the age of the unemployed, the data shows that unlike the last few months, in which there was an increase in the rate of unemployed young people, in September there was actually a decrease of 1.1% to 27.3%, although their rate is still high compared to their rate in June (25.8%) and compared to September 2019 (26.6%) . On the other hand, there was a 0.6% increase in the proportion of the middle age group (35-54 years old) as well as a 0.3% increase in the proportion of the older age group (55 and over).
As a result of the partial end of the summer layoffs, the rate of women demanding work decreased by 0.8%, but it is still significantly higher than the rate of men (56.6% compared to 43.4%) and even higher than their rate in June (53.8%) and their rate in the corresponding period before the crisis (September 2019, 55.7 %).
The employment service also notes that 121.5 thousand of the total jobseekers (about 81%) were also registered in August, but this is still a significantly lower number than the one registered in July (127.9 thousand). This is probably due to the return to school in September.
