Energy Minister Karin Elharer signed the appointment of Meir Spiegler as CEO of IEC

Energy Minister Karin Elharer signed the appointment of Meir Spiegler as CEO of the Electric Company. Finance Minister Avigdor Lieberman also signed the appointment, and now all that remains is to coordinate the start of Spiegler's position with the Authority of Government Companies and the Electric Company.
Spiegler's appointment was approved by the Gilaur Committee back in June, but the Minister of Energy refused to sign the appointment letter due to allegations made to her about an improper appointment procedure. About two weeks ago, the legal adviser to the government sent a letter to the minister in which she claims that no deficiencies were found in the appointment process and therefore she must sign it. After the legal advisor's letter, the minister stated that she would sign the appointment letter.
The Electric Company has been running without a CEO since May, when Ofer Bloch left the position in favor of Shufersal. In July, the Electric Company's board appointed Spiegler, currently the CEO of the National Insurance, as acting CEO, but the move did not materialize. The current leader is Ram Erlichman.
The Electric Company has been operating without a permanent chairman since August 2021. Today it was published in Calcalist that the designated chairman of the Electric Company, Ilan Biran, withdrew from the race for the position after his appointment was delayed for several months by Finance Minister Avigdor Lieberman. In April, Dov Beharev was appointed to the position, but resigned after about three weeks after, according to him, he was exposed to cases of "aggressive involvement of political considerations among board members and elements in the company's management."
