Israeli-Russian billionaire Yuri Milner announced that he is renouncing his Russian citizenship

Israeli-Russian billionaire Yuri Milner, the richest Russian in Silicon Valley, has announced that he is renouncing his Russian citizenship.
Milner completed the process as early as August, according to a post on the website of his venture capital firm, DST Global. In a tweet on Twitter, he wrote that he and his family members left Russia permanently in 2014 following the annexation of Crimea. When Russia attacked Ukraine at the beginning of the year, DST Global issued a statement condemning Russia's war against Ukraine, in which it spoke out against "brutal and unjustified attacks against the civilian population", as it were. Milner said he stands by those statements.
Milner, who was born in Moscow and received Israeli citizenship in 1999, is estimated to be worth $3.5 billion, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index. Over the years, DST has made investments in technology giants such as Facebook.
The fund came under international criticism for accepting Russian money from a state-controlled bank and other Russian backers in 2011. Since then, DST has received no money from Russia and has not invested in the country, Milner told Bloomberg in March. In 2011, Vladimir Putin was not the president of Russia, and relations between the US and Russia were better.
In an interview with Bloomberg Businessweek in March, Milner said: "I can't change the fact that I was born in Russia. I can't change the fact that we received Russian money."
Milner has a house in Los Altos, California, which he purchased in 2011 for $100 million. He holds an O-1 visa in the US, a type of visa popular among entrepreneurs, which is reserved for people with "extraordinary ability".
