Posted on Oct 10, 2022 by Ifi Reporter - Dan Bielski

The Vice President of the Labor Court in Beer Sheva, Judge Zvi Frankel, yesterday (Friday) prohibited the Histadrut from disrupting the reception of the new unloading cranes. This is after this week, the workers' union of the port announced that it will stop the operation of the cranes unless the workers receive advances at the expense of the new labor agreement that was agreed upon with them.
The new cranes purchased in China with an investment of approximately NIS 200 million are intended to optimize and speed up the unloading rate of containers and excess cargo at the port, to enable it to handle larger ships and to prepare it for competition with the new private ports in Ashdod and Haifa, and the old Haifa port which was sold to a private company. Among the innovations in the five cranes installed at the port's Pier 21, there is the possibility of operating them remotely without the crane operator having to climb on it to operate it.
Although a new labor agreement on the new cranes was agreed upon with the workers, and even before that they received NIS 100,000 each, wage increases of tens of percent and a pension safety net as part of the transfer of the port to the status of a government company, the operations workers' committee, which has 700 members, unexpectedly announced Immediate disruptions, two weeks before the convening of the port's board of directors to discuss the agreement, which is also awaiting the approval of the salary commissioner at the Ministry of Finance.
