IAI announced that it has signed a contract worth more than $ 200 million for the supply of intelligence aircraft to European countries, a member of NATO. This is the fourth contract reported by IAI for the sale of aircraft to European countries, after Italy purchased two aircraft in 2012. $ 750 million, and in 2020 the company reported another deal with a country on the continent for such a plane, worth $ 350 million.
According to reports in Europe, the two planes acquired by Italy are participating in NATO operations around Ukraine, and in gathering intelligence on the activities of Russian forces that the alliance is passing on to the Ukrainians, giving it a significant advantage in battle.
The intelligence planes sold by the company so far, which are based on the installation of radars and information analysis systems made by IAI's Elta Division, are installed on top of the recently discontinued US Gulfstream G550 executive jet. IAI refused to say whether the new deal will use a larger aircraft of the company, or whether used aircraft will be purchased for the project that will be converted.
To date, IAI has provided the Israeli Air Force with five such intelligence and reconnaissance aircraft, in air control models and electronic information collection. A sixth aircraft, which focuses on collecting information on ground operations, is currently in the process of being converted and entering service.
