About 250 investors gathered for the annual meeting of the venture capital industry, this is an annual event that is taking place for the fourth year without an agenda, without speeches and without speakers. Its purpose is to enable the industry to cultivate relationships, create open dialogue, build the necessary connections to work together and collaborate on investments in Israeli startups.
The main issue that came up in the conversations that occupied the investors at the conference was the continuing decline in the value of technology companies after the IPO and the impact on investments in the private market in the startup industry. The dialogue between investors was about slowing down until the trades stopped until it became clear which direction the market was taking.
The event was initiated by Guy Katzovich, founder and partner of the Fusion Fund and Accelerator Program, which hosts the annual Lobby Conferences, a 15-year conference of the American venture capital industry and brings together leading investors to talk about the future of the startup industry.
"Discussions at the event dealt with questions about the types of transactions that can be done now, when the market is uncertain. Investors who said they are sitting on the fence during this period and allow themselves to miss transactions because entrepreneurs want value for companies that were common several months ago, but not during this period," says Guy Katzovich, co-founder of the Fusion Fund. "There is also talk at the event about companies postponing the IPO plan for the end of the year, or companies in the growth and light stage stages that are not in a hurry to go out for rounds because it is clear during this period that they will not receive the value they are aiming for."
The event was held in collaboration with the StageOne Ventures Foundation, Adv. Guy Lachman - Senior Partner at the law firm Pearl Cohen, Deloitte Catalyst, Poalim Hi-Tech and the NuVC community for young investors, helping the next generation of venture capitalists develop their network of contacts and skills in the field.
According to Nofar Schneider, Principal at StageOne Ventures and one of the founders of the NuVC community: "Three years ago we founded the community after there was a real need for people entering positions in venture capital funds in Israel to learn and help each other, collaborate and consult. Corona created a situation where many of the investors never met face-to-face, and we felt it was time for the venture capital community to meet with the community. " Notable portfolio companies include Uniper, DigitalOwl, Innplay Labs, Agora, Hoopo, SetPoint and more.
