Arkia announced today (Saturday) the launch of two rescue flights from Ukraine on Monday and Tuesday, amid fears of a Russian invasion. The company said that it had decided to operate the flights in light of requests from thousands of Israelis to the Foreign Ministry. The flight on Monday will take off from Odessa at 19:00 local time, and on Tuesday at 12:00.
Oz Berlovitch, Arkia's deputy CEO, said: "As there is more demand, the company will set up more flights. We are in continuous contact with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and have opened a hotline for Israelis interested in returning home. Phone number: 03-6903712 ".
The Foreign Ministry estimates that there are currently 15,000 Israelis in Ukraine, and about 4,500 of them responded to the request to register on the ministry's website so that they can be contacted in the event of a war.
Yesterday, the Foreign Ministry issued a travel warning to Ukraine, calling on Israelis staying in the country to carefully consider their stay there. At the same time it was reported that the Foreign Ministry will evacuate the families of the diplomatic staff at the embassy in Kiev.
Prime Minister Naftali Bennett today held a situation assessment that was defined as an attempt to "accelerate preparations for the expulsion of Israelis from the country." Foreign Minister Yair Lapid, the head of the National Security Council, Eyal Hulta, and other senior officials participated in the discussion.
