IAI is beginning to recruit precision science graduates who will undergo software engineering courses

The shortage of software personnel leads to creative solutions: The aerospace industry is beginning to recruit precision science graduates who will undergo conversion to software engineering in an intensive seven-month course.
The course will be conducted by Infinity Labs from the Matrix Group, which will also be responsible for selecting the candidates. The course will run five days a week, for about ten hours a day, in a hybrid format with frontal studies on its campus in Ramat Gan. The value of the course is about NIS 100,000 and the candidates will not be required to pay for it directly, but will undertake to work at IAI for two years through Infiniti, which will deduct the cost of training from their salaries.
"We currently have an average of about 100 open standards in the field of software, twice what we were only two years ago," says Adi Ben-Shoshan, IAI's recruitment director. "The shortage of software people in the market has prompted all recruiters to look less at the candidate's experience and more at his potential. We are looking for graduates in electronics, biomedicine and also exact graduates like inexperienced physics and mathematics, and in screening their potential to become software people will be tested."
The screenings will start in February, and will initially train about 30 people, who will be divided into two or three groups. "The training will be similar to software courses in the IDF, very intensive and practical, in order to receive employees who can function as those who have already gained experience," explains Haim Gron, co-CEO of Infinity Labs R&D. "After the first two years, their salaries will increase significantly. Anyone who meets the milestones in the course will be absorbed into the work, and those who turn out not to be able to obtain a suitable security classification for work at IAI will refer it to other companies."
