After a delay of almost two years in opening the tender envelopes, waiting for the last evacuation of the residents of Kfar Shalem - which is on the route of the purple line of the light rail in Tel Aviv - on Sunday evening the company which builds the local train in the Dan area chose the winning groups to build the green and purple lines.
Ten bids were submitted for the tender by five groups. Each group submitted one bid for the green line and another for the purple line. The Tenders Committee selected the proposal of the Alstom Group, Dan and Electra - to establish the Green Line; And in the proposal of the Shafir Group and the Spanish CAF to establish the purple line.
The Urban Transport Routes Company stated that as part of the tender process and after a hearing process, it was decided by the Tenders Committee to disqualify the bid of the Housing and Construction Group, the Chinese CRRC, and the Egged Cooperative.
The tender includes construction, planning, maintenance, supply and financing of the green and purple line. The Green Line, which is scheduled to start operating in 2027, will connect Holon and Rishon Lezion, with central Tel Aviv, Tel Aviv University, the industrial and business area in western Herzliya and the business area in Kiryat Atidim. The length of the line is about 39 km and 63 stations will be built (of which 4 are underground).
The purple line, which is planned to start operating in 2026, will connect Kiryat Ono and Yehud to the center of Tel Aviv, via Bar Ilan University, Sheba Hospital, and the Carmel Market. The length of the line is about 27 km at ground level, and it will include 45 stations. Both lines will join the red line, which is expected to start operating commercially at the end of this year.
Following the announcement by NATA, the Minister of Transportation, Merav Michaeli, stated: "The purple and green lines are underway. Mass transportation is the future of our transportation, it is our only way to move forward in life and as a society. Congratulations to the companies that won the tenders for the construction of the two new lines of the light rail in Gush Dan. "I am sure that Nata together with the winners understand the size of the responsibility and the size of the task. Good luck to everyone, to the work."
