Two officers from the Walnut Brigade's were shot dead Wednesday night by another fighter at Nabi Musa base, due to a misidentification. The two, platoon commanders in the elite brigade, were evacuated by helicopter to Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital in Jerusalem, where they were pronounced dead. A message was sent to their families and the IDF began interrogating the incident. IDF officials said that "this is a very difficult incident in which two significant commanders from the commando brigade were killed after the training was over."
The incident occurred shortly after 11 p.m. Preliminary specifications indicate that the two officers went on patrol in the range ranges of the base, at the end of the training held yesterday. The two identified a suspicious figure and performed a suspicious arrest procedure that included firing a warning into the air. The shooting of the two officers was recognized by another fighter from the force, from the same unit, in the dark, but he thought it was terrorists firing in his direction, and opened fire at them.
Both officers were fatally wounded, and medical personnel in the unit provided them with primary care on the ground. At the same time, an Air Force helicopter was launched to evacuate them, but they were soon pronounced dead. MPF officials arrived at the scene of the incident for the purpose of gathering findings and evidence, along with an investigation that was opened in the elite division 98.
