Ministry of Economy and Industry might authorize expansion of overtime employment

In view of the wide spread of the omicron strain and the heavy disruptions in the labor market, the Ministry of Economy and Industry published a memorandum of law authorizing the expansion of overtime employment. According to the ministry, the permit, which will be set as a temporary order for 30 days, is intended to allow the economy to deal with the changes caused as a result of the huge jump in morbidity.
The proposed permit conditions include an extension of the weekly overtime quota to 25 hours, compared to 15 stipulated by law. This is as long as the length of the work week, including overtime, does not exceed 67 hours - compared to a limit of 57 hours according to the existing law. It will also be possible to employ employees up to 14 daily working hours, including overtime, up to 8 times a month, so that the quota of hours does not exceed 90 hours. Under the existing law, an employee can work up to 12 hours a day, including overtime, and the monthly hourly quota set by law is 60 hours.
The law memorandum reads: "There is a large increase in the extent of morbidity and the number of people required to isolate or perform tests - and therefore a permit for overtime employment is proposed as a temporary provision that will allow the economy to cope with changes caused by this renewed outbreak."
"This is done for the following reasons: there are tens of thousands of citizens verified every day; there are hundreds of thousands of workers required for forced isolation; some parents are forced to be absent from work as children who are not vaccinated in isolation after being exposed to a verified patient; The functioning of the economy and damage to the production chain. "
The ministry proposes to exclude the construction industry as well as the transportation industry in light of the fact that these are industries for which there is an increased safety risk.
