Elbit Systems won a $ 53 million contract to supply systems for the UAE Air Force

Posted on Jan 3, 2022 by Ifi Reporter - Dan Bielski

Elbit Systems is penetrating for the first time the large security market that opened following the Avraham agreements. The company, which is managed by Bezalel Machlis, has won a $ 53 million contract to supply infrared-based laser defense systems and electronic warfare systems for the UAE Air Force. The order will be delivered in a period of 5 years.
As part of the contract, Elbit Systems Emirates - a wholly-owned subsidiary of Elbit Systems founded two months ago - will provide a J-MUSIC self-defense system, based on a passive infrared laser-based alert alert system that will provide protection and redundancy. Elbit Systems' DIRCM systems are installed on 25 types of aircraft and have accumulated 350,000 operational flight hours.
The current contract, which is the first in 2022, joins a rapid build-up of orders over the past month, in which Elbit Systems reported a $ 350 million contract to supply terrestrial systems to an international customer to be executed within 3 years; A $ 100 million contract to supply electronic warfare systems to the British Navy, and a $ 106 million win in the first export deal for the new Sigma automatic cannon.
The establishment of the subsidiary, Elbit Systems Emirates, is intended to develop long-term collaborations with the UAE army, to manage processes of adapting Elbit Systems' technological solutions to the operational needs of the UAE army, and to lead the transfer of technologies to the subsidiary's local partners. Elbit Systems has developed the DIRCM systems - known as the Sky Shield - laser systems against the most advanced missiles of its kind in the world. The system detects the firing of a shoulder-fired missile at the aircraft and launches a laser beam that neutralizes the missile. The beam is launched to the top of the missile and deflects it from the aircraft. Four cameras provide 360-degree coverage, detect the launch and aim the laser beam at the top of the missile and keep it away from the aircraft by disrupting the missile's tracking.
